I was going to type something witty about epic car repair and my struggle to get a car window stuck in the down position back up before the rains come.
Anyways, car is stuck in the down position, my car door is almost a solid sheet of metal underneath the panel, and nothing I could do was going to get it back up. Any advice on what kind of shop will give me a good deal? Any ideas on a temporary fix that won't make me a magnet for getting pulled over in Speed Trap, TX? _________________ "I'm kind of an expert on solving problems, sir. Most body shops should be able to fix it for you. Good luck! _________________ "Always know where your towel is." - Ford Prefect

Well I just don't want to end up without a car for a week or two. Heck, last time I put the car in a body shop I was without a car for a whole month and that was to replace a bumper. _________________ "I'm kind of an expert on solving problems, sir. That's because replacing a bumper is a bigger deal than fixing a window that's right there. They probably had to order the bumper, and then there was all the work of installing it. To fix the window, you just need them to get inside the door and put the glass back onto its proper track and then put the door back together again. This supposes that the window mechanism itself is still in working order, of course, and that the window has simply come off its moorings, but that is the most common cause of a window that won't go up. The other thing that could be wrong would be the window mechanism itself, in which case you would want to obtain the proper part from an auto parts store and have the body shop install it for you. Of course, if you don't know whether the mechanism works or not, you probably need to have the body shop take the door apart in order to figure that out. Then all that's needed is the mechanism - if it needs replacing - and they can fix you right up.
No way should this take very long, provided you use a reputable body shop. Hint: try not to go to the one you used last time. _________________ "Always know where your towel is." - Ford Prefect

I seem to be a magnet for cars with windows that fall off tracks. My regular mechanics fix them quickly for me. Free if they just have to put them back on.
Tends to be hard on windows up here because they're always freezing shut. And I have to open my window to wave a parking card at a machine. And electric windows, although a nice convenience, are just one more thing to burn out/short out/screw up. At least with the hand cranks, pretty well the worst that happened was that the handle or the knob would fall off. _________________ “I don't consider myself a pessimist. I've got a fickle driver's window, sometimes it likes to pretend it's stuck in the down position. When I pull on the bit of glass that still shows, it decides to move back up again. _________________ Chuck: I don't know anything about you since you were nine.

Hoppy reports that the driver's side window on the Oldsmobile is now acting funny, too.
I suspect a forum-borne window virus. _________________ "Always know where your towel is." - Ford Prefect

Any town that has less than 10,000 people, but you never see less than five cop cars with radar guns.
Give us a break though. We can't sell alcohol so that leaves speeding tickets as our only source of income (Well, that and the 69 corridor is a main drug taffic route, blah, blah, blah.) _________________ "I'm kind of an expert on solving problems, sir. Oh yeah, right before the daily thunderstorms of last week too.
And well, I think I will go ahead an buy a new car since this one seems to be on its last legs. I've already canceled my move to Austin since I realized it would be stupid to walk away from a job where I am paid enough and into a city where I only know one person and he works in a book store and plan on leaving the country next year*.
*Leaving to study abroad. As an anarchist he really doesn't care who wins next year though as a smart anarchist he is trying to get rid of all his dollars and exchanging it for better currency, etc. _________________ "I'm kind of an expert on solving problems, sir.
