One of my favorite authors, specifically for the Rama series, but also for short stories such as "The Hammer of God". A great hard scifi writer, describing the physics of long interstellar voyages, mass in motion, and explosions in space perfectly. Oh, and there was this little story called "2001: A Space Odyessy". Plus the idea of communications satellites decades before they became reality, that too.
