we have the whole bearing false witness thing plus Jesus-saying let your yeahs be yeahs and your nays be nays |
Hmm, well, I had a quick Google and we have this, allegedly from Paul, which seems to be saying that lying in the cause is acceptable (although I was wrong, it's Romans, not Mark):
"For if the truth of God hath more abounded by my lie unto his glory, why yet am I also adjudged a sinner?" (Romans 3:7)
Granted, not the Bible but from Martin Luther:
"What harm would it do, if a man told a good strong lie for the sake of the good and for the Christian church ... a lie out of necessity, a useful lie, a helpful lie, such lies would not be against God, he would accept them." _________________ 5150: I'm crazy, what's your excuse?

I guess I need to reply to this-
the context is a few verses previous Paul said let God be true and every man a liar and just before that what advantage has the circumcision over the uncircumcised?
Paul is discussing why if he believes one no longer is under Mosaic Law that he still practices as a strict Jew
the lie is Jewish formalized religion _________________ Daniel Webster: You seem to have an excellent acquaintance with the law, sir.

There's not much I can say to that so I'm not going to. _________________ 5150: I'm crazy, what's your excuse?
